Hypertension
Have You Had YOur Blood Press Checked Recently?
Have you had your blood pressure checked recently? According to the American Heart Association, 30% of Americans are unaware that they have high blood pressure. Hypertension is a major health problem worldwide. In the United States more than 50 million people (one in four adults) have already been diagnosed with high blood pressure.
Another 26% are already on medications but do not have their blood pressure under control. According to a study released in 1993, between 40% and 50% of clients with high blood pressure discontinue their medications within six months of starting therapy. Side effects, complicated dosing schedules, expense and apathy are the major reasons why most people quit taking their medications.
Hypnosis benefits the hypertensive client in a several ways.
- Hypnosis helps to lower the blood pressure and keep it down whether the client is taking antihypertensive medications or not.
- Blood pressures tend to be more stable and long lasting with hypnosis than medications.
- It is non-invasive and, therefore, safer than medications.
- Compared to a lifetime of expensive co-pays for medications, hypnosis represents an inexpensive way to control this life threatening condition.
- The side effects of hypnosis are generally considered positive rather than negative.
- It is easier to adhere to than complicated dosing schedules of medications.
- It can be used to promote compliance with physicians’ orders concerning lifestyle adjustments.
- It leaves the client with a greater sense of control and well being than medications.
